If you want to plant a garden, there are some things that you need to know about the plants that you will be growing. You can plant annuals, biennials, perennials, flowering shrubs, or bulbs. The first thing is annuals. When you plant annuals, they only live for one year and they are considered seasonal plants. You can plant them by seeds, and they grow and make more seeds. When you plant annual flowers, they add a lot of color and you can change the layout of your garden after a year. Some of these plants are asters and dianthus.

The next plants are biennials and it takes two years to grow from seed. These are also seasonal flowers that flower in the second year. Biennials usually only bloom for two years and then they die. The name explains it all because it is based on the Latin "biennis," which means "two years."

The next type is perennials, which means that they last for many years. Those are the flowering plants that flower year after year, including bleeding heart, water lily, and gerberas. When you plant these, there is no reason for replanting unless you want to change your layout.

The last type is bulbs. You plant these beneath the soil and the bulb part stays underground. Many of the bulbs that you plant will have a resting period, and there is no growth. These are very easy to grow and some of these would be daffodils, tulips, and bluebells. Many of these are springtime flowers.
