Tips On Watering Your Garden

Many can't wait until spring when the snow has melted and they can work on their garden. However, the best way to get the most out of your plants is to know how to care for them. Here are some ideas when it comes to watering them.

It's good to know what soil type you have. Sandy soil can't hold water and needs to be watered more often. Clay soil can hold water, so plants don't need to be watered as often. Also, to get the most from your water, it's best to water in the morning or later in the afternoon. Make sure leaves have time to dry before dark because nighttime can cause diseases to form on wet leaves. When watering, you can depend on Mother Nature to do it, or you can save rainwater in a container. Make sure it has a lid on it, so no bugs get in it, such as mosquitoes. Fill your watering can and take care of your plants. You can also use a hose, but it's a good idea to have a nozzle with different settings on it.

Many use sprinklers, but a lot of water gets wasted through evaporation. Also, a sprinkler gets all messed up if it's windy outside. Use a soaker hose and the water will go where you want it. For a garden just lay the hose near the plants to be watered. The hose has holes, so the water goes deep into the soil, ensuring a deeper watering and healthier plants. This is expensive, but uses the least amount of water.
