Properly Caring for Your Garden

There are a few occupations more rewarding to a gardener than to meander out to the vegetable patch to harvest and devour the fruits of his manual labor. Successful vegetable crop growing entails far more than just shove and sticking seeds into the ground and hang around for a tomato to emerge.

A vegetable garden should be well prepared in order for it to properly develop. The site is of maximum significance. A spot close to the house is the generally most suitable location, however; drainage, soil grade, and shield from trees may mean that the garden requires a minimum of six hours of complete sun in order for the victuals mature suitably. The soil should be very rich and the water should be able to drain adequately. While good air circulation should be sufficient, it should not be too windy so that it doesn't dry out the garden.

It is healthier to have a well sustained garden than a larger one that may go uncared for. A fence should surround the garden in order to keep out unwanted animals. The fence can also provide as a framework for beans, peas, tomatoes, and other plants that require bracing.

If your garden has previously been nurtured, there is little to do other than to turn over extra organic substances and fertilizers. The compost may be in the formula of manure or any other appropriate unrefined plant food dispersed at a proportion of four pounds for each thousand square feet.
