When planting your flower garden, you may want to consider adding plants to your landscape that will last throughout the winter months as well. There are many different flowers that will continue blooming even during the coldest months of the year. There are several shrubs that can endure the cold months as well as produce beautiful flowers. A shrub that is called the Japanese Pieris or may also be known as a broad leaf evergreen shrub produces bright red, pink or even white flower blossoms.
Another winter shrub that is very popular for colder climate is witch hazel. Witch hazel has several different variations some of which may be more durable for colder climates. One of the most popular flowers that are able to withstand cold weather are none other than Helleborus. This winter flower begins to bloom anywhere from mid to late winter offer a nice touch to what may be a dreary yard. Another flower that many may already be familiar with is the Glory of the Snow or the proper name being Chionodoxa Lucillae.
This star-like flower is a bulb which blooms in the late winter. Chinese Juniper is known for its bluish green leaves which become covered with a dainty looking yellow flower during late winter or early spring. The Chinese Juniper is available as a ground cover, bushes and full size trees. A great tip to remember is that if a plant or flower has a "snow" or "winter" variety, they will be able to withstand temperatures as low as a -4 degrees. Most flowers bloom according to the outdoor temperature and may vary for different climates or regions.
