Vegetable Garden Soils

With the economy now, having a vegetable garden makes a lot of sense. If you have a yard or patio, you can grow your own vegetables. It is easy to grow vegetables; if you know a little bit about the soil and fertilizers needed, to produce healthy plants. With a patio, you can make a container garden. It is necessary to have a good, loose soil, that will hold moisture well. A good mix of clay and sand, with the right blend of loam, makes a really good combination for vegetables. The clay soil holds the moisture, and the sandy soil is better for drainage. A good combination of both, helps to maintain the proper moisture level. Choose the plants, and follow the directions that usually come with them, and you can make a beautiful garden.

Fertilizers are another important factor, for your soil. Manure is one of the best fertilizers, and soil enhancers there is. You mix it with the clay soil, it makes the soil loose and vibrant. The kind of manure you use, is important also. Chicken manure is really good, but you have to be careful not to over use it. It is richer than cow or horse manure. Animal manure has more grass, or hay in them, and helps make better mulch. If you are a first time gardener, you should go online, and check out all the resources about vegetable gardening. There is a world of information, to help you know how to mix your soil, and what kind of fertilizers, insect, weed and pest controllers to use. It should be a good experience.
