Flower gardening is a fun way to create a little piece of heaven right outside your door. The perfect garden would be a place you want to go to forget all the worries of the day and just relax by enjoying your surroundings.
The most popular flowers are naturally the ones with the blooms that last the longest or that keep producing throughout the gardening season. Your garden can be made up of both perennials (they come up each season), and annuals (they will not last longer than one growing season). Some popular perennials are roses, peonies, daisies, iris, columbine, mums, phlox, lavender and so many others. Annuals that compliment a perennial bed are impatiens, petunias, coleus, gerbera daisies, and verbena.
A local plant nursery will be the best place to get an idea of the colors and heights of various flowers. Just walking through a nursery when everything is in full bloom will inspire you and also give you a great visual to help in planning your own unique flower garden.
It looks great to plant a variety of heights with random placement. This will give the garden a dimensional feeling, rather than just having rows of flowers. There are a lot of great ground covers to carpet a flower garden with. Sedum comes in several varieties and will spread to blanket any bare ground, which in turn will keep the weed population down. Remember: this is where imagination and creativity are unique to each individual. These, in turn, will make your garden special.
