Choosing the location for your garden is the first and key step in the gardening process. The location you choose should be in an open location away from trees and shrubs. Sunlight is needed for about six to eight hours for them to grow properly and produce. Good soil and drainage is needed in your gardening spot as well. Leafy vegetable such as lettuce and spinach will grow in less sunlight but the drainage and soil still need to be good. Another thing for your garden plan is a water source. Will you be able to water the garden easily in dry conditions?
There are alternatives if you do not have a plot of land to plant in. Container gardens are a great alternative. Many vegetables will grow wonderfully in containers. Great choices for these types of gardening are bush and dwarf varieties. The vegetables that grow great in a container garden are tomatoes, peppers, carrots, radishes and lettuce. The size of your pot is important in your container garden. Larger vegetables, such as tomatoes and eggplants need a five-gallon container.
You don’t have to have one big plot for growing. Several small plots will work great. Make one for growing herbs, cucumbers and beans in another and tomatoes in the third. The possibilities are all your own. Small spaces will not limit you if you plan properly and smaller sections will help you keep weeding under better control.
